I'm not convinced that Gary McAllister's dive, referred to above, was even in the Sunderland half.

This is somewhat off-topic (and is being ably dealt with over at Salut! Sunderland) but the Thierry Henry hand-ball incident also offers a glimpse into the increasingly impoverished state of British journalism:
The Times, back in the days when it could bring down a government, used to be nicknamed the Thunderer. But it's become a very muted rumble.
"The Times Chief Football Commentator delivers his verdict on France's controversial goal against Ireland and how to prevent it happening again," we're told today. Pin your ears back for a pronouncement from the gods. "He talks to Ben Smith."
What? The TCFC is too high and mighty to write it himself?
All the same, how are the high-and-mighty fallen. This one's not even going to bring down a footballer ("Ouch! Ref, he hit me in the face with his invective! Send him off.")
