Not quite as many people voted in my Petite Anglaise book cover contest as in the French presidential elections.
But the steady trickle of votes has produced a winner.
To no great surprise, a thumping majority - 95.5 per cent and yes, it does sound a lot better that way than giving the number of votes cast - supported my view that the American version, Petite and Mr Frog back to back against the Eiffel Tower with her holding the baby, is by far the more arresting.
But Salut! salutes Bo Lundberg, the Swede who designed the American cover, and Spiegel & Grau, the US publishers, for choosing it.
It is probably too late to threaten to shake the good folk at Penguin soundly until they switch from the less gripping, less evocative mum-with-buggy image for the UK edition of the book, due out in February.
American readers of Salut! please note that they must wait until June 2008 for publication.
Meanwhile Petite - Catherine Sanderson, captured in the clip from the most popular French TV news programme - has been posting some interesting pieces to her celebrated blog of late.
She is even having to deal with a minor outbreak of readership backlash, as can be seen in some of the comments to a recent post explaining why she has become, in certain areas of her life, uncharacteristically reticent.
Each rebuke, each declaration of severed links is met by a burst of support from Petite loyalists. My first guess is that a small minority of Catherine's readership wanted to keep her for itself and rather resents the fact that she has become such public property. My second guess is that she'll get over it.
