What the blogosphere will make of it, few can tell. Bill Taylor has become a blogger.
For those who have missed the last few years, Bill has been lurking around lots of other people's blogs, bringing to them everything from brilliant wit and a raging passion for Canada and France to skilled putdowns and a dodgy outlook on penal issues.
A moderator of the Daily Telegraph blogs remarked that he was the only regular poster of comments who made her laugh out loud. Colin Berry, a blogger based in Antibes, France (and an equally prolific leaver of blog comments), with whom Bill frequently locked horns) declared him, in so many words, a cyber lout.
But mark this. Bill will tomorrow embark on an 8,000km round trip from Toronto to Los Angeles in a Hyundai Accent, described as the cheapest car you can buy in Canada.
It is for the Toronto Star's automotive - by which I am sure he means motoring - section and he will also blog about his experiences daily at this link, where you will already find more information about the Accent, or the 'Cent as Canadians have taken to calling it, than you could possibly ever require. His first posting is now live.
"It's a very small car so it could be quite an interesting trip," Bill writes, evidently while keeping a straight face.
One thing that may make the blog interesting is that our hero will return by a "more circuitous southern route", taking in Memphis and Nashville, though not Antibes. Another is that he will be writing it. If anyone can make a long trip in a cheap, nondescript car seem fascinating, it is Bill.
Bonne route.......
