Two years after this site was launched, however, it could do with a helping hand.
Salut! will never make me rich. I did not launch it with that in mind, and am grateful for the combination of support, loyalty and curiosity represented by the present total of 160,000+ "hits" to the site. About three-quarters are what are known in another morsel of website jargon as "unique visits", if recent statistics are reliable.
That is either a lot of a people, or a lot of visits - as a few wags suggested at my recent Who Are You? posting - from a handful of sad folk with nothing better to do.
In any event, I have decided to explore ways of turning this reasonably impressive level of readership into a modest income which, in the first instance, would help (with a little luck) to offset the cost of running Salut!
If you look at the columns on each side of Salut! postings, you see various links. There are signposts to other items of possible interest, whether written by me or others; there is an Amazon bookshelf and there are advertisements.
Any would-be advertiser is welcome to ask about display ads of the type seen at the top of this page for Easy-to-Book hotel reservations and a B&B in Cornwall. Just contact me via the e-mail link also found at the top of the page. There are also Google ads you can all click on to your hearts' content.
And now there is Addiply. Behind that odd word is a novel scheme for low-cost text advertising. For 50p per 1,000 views, you can plant your ad there as Craig McGinty has done for his very useful and informative This French Life site. Click on any of the empty ads to learn more about how it works and how you can use it.
The cost is probably low enough to make it worth at least a try. And by all means let me know, if you do try it out, your impressions of its concept and/or usefulness. Or just tell me to jump.........
