Salut! needs a doctor. It is suffering from a little known but painful condition known as Typepaditis.
Ever since the web hosting operation (Typepad) introduced some fancy new "improvements", posting to the far-flung empire of Salut! sites has become a nightmare.
A friend, extremely computer literate, who helps out under the bonnet of Salut! Sunderland has frequently made the same complaint. So it is not merely a case of the one of those Private Eye p***** old hacks being baffled by new technology.
Can anyone out there please explain why text refuses to save, pretends to save but doesn't, leaps in and out of different modes even as you type, erases whole articles in an instant as an image is inserted and......well, you get the picture?
I use Macs, and Typepad is honest enough to acknowledge that some functions do not especially like them. But I am sure my friend does not.
I do not necessarily expect a reply, let alone a solution, from anyone. But in case any readers wondered what was going on a few minutes ago, when a posting kept on appearing and disappearing, the explanation is simple: the weekly "mark my words" column, which cannot be posted until tomorrow when it also appears in The National was proving difficult to format and I wanted to make sure it would not finally pop up as a mass of text without paragraph breaks.
Come back to Salut! tomorrow if you would like to read what I have to say about local and regional accents.
