Salut! is off to Lebanon and the site is unlikely to be updated for a few days.
I am told it may be cool there, but am greatly looking forward to my first visit; it's all part of the idea of seeing as much of the region as possible, visiting countries to which I might not otherwise have given a second thought.
As usual when alerting visitors to short absences, I offer a reminder that they, and perhaps especially those who stray into these pages more or less by accident, have ample opportunity to navigate the site's past glories (or, if you prefer, inglorious past).
The categories listed down each sidebar contain links that would take you to material about my impressions of France, previous items about the UAE and the Middle East as a whole, thoughts on India and Nepal, my elder daughter Christelle's experiences with wildlife in Africa......and more besides. All postings are open to comments.
Salut! will return with the latest Mark my words column at some stage of the weekend, though you can always look it up at The National website (same link) from the early hours of Saturday.
And for my brother Phil's benefit - he being a former rugby player and now a referee - I should also point the way to rugby disunion, since the return of the Six Nations means it is almost exactly a year since I caused ructions by demanding Sunderland v Wigan instead of Wales v Scotland at my expat haunt in Abu Dhabi.
