We heard about the eight Oscars - pretty much deserved in terms of what we've seen of films in Abu Dhabi in the past 12 months - while on our short break in India.
Slumdog Millionaire's executive producers were Mme Salut!'s former boss at Pathe, Francois Ivernel, and his colleague Cameron McCracken,so we were wondering whether, with so many awards flying around, she might qualify for one too. Best ex-PA to the Exec Producer?
In any event, it is a film we both greatly enjoyed and, as Mme Salut! has remarked in a congratulatory e-mail to Francois, being in India when the awards were announced was a bit like being in France when les Bleus achieved the magnificent un-deux-trois victory over Brazil in France '98.
And an apology to my former colleague, and enduring Facebook friend, Shane Richmond, suspected here of being snide about Kate Winslet's Oscar when in fact all he was doing was drawing attention to an amusing clip. Blame trying to follow Facebook status updates on a Blackberry and see Shane's explanatory comment below, and his clip above.
But maybe I'm just pleased for her because I haven't had a chance to hear the acceptance speech. Others must fill me in on what it was like....
