OK, I had more pressing reasons to be in Paris again for a couple of days, and an even more pressing, depressing duty arose while I was there.
But I was able to see enough to remind me of what the city of luminosity is like in late spring. That's two visits within two months so I have no cause for complaint. I almost always like Paris, but I like it most of all in May; there are too many tourists, but there also plenty of Parisians to keep the ratio bearable. Not everyone would speak so warmly of Parisians, but they have their uses.
June has now begun and is also a pleasant month to be in the capital, but it won't be as appealing again until September.
These photographs were taken at Place St Michel, where I stayed - as I have done before - at the very modest Delhy's Hotel. "A lift?" said the receptionist, repeating part of the silly, forgetful question I had posed on learning I was in room 10, third floor. "But this is a building from the 15th century."
I will have a little more to write about my visit, mostly - or, at any rate, first - in The National, Abu Dhabi. Here, you get the images, too, though I hardly dare ask if that is a good or bad thing.
By way of a promise, I will just add that this lady - the smallest of those visible - is about to become a star of Salut! ...
