Var-Matin tells me there were 40,000, not 20/30.000, on and around the beach for Olivia Ruiz in Le Lavandou. That's 10,000 more than turned out for Jimmy Cliff three years ago.
I doubt if there was much overlap last night when a polite, compliant audience measured in low three figures filed into the gardens opposite the tourist office in la Croix Valmer for Irish Coffee.
No I didn't care much for the band's name either. But they did win me over, slowly but surely, with an intelligent, lyrical and entertaining musical and story-telling odyssey through Brittany, Ireland, Louisiana and Canadian Acadia before making the reverse Atlantic crossing back to Ireland and Scotland.
I enjoyed it hugely in the end. Even the rather unusual interpretation of Loch Lomond (it would need to be unusual, I grant you, to be enjoyable). But if you want to know more - and what, in the end, led me to excuse the twee choice of name - you will need to check out my report at Salut! Live.
