When the beach looks like that, even on a moderately sunny Sunday morning, you know the season's at a close. Of course, it really came to an end weeks ago, but the balmy autumn weather has kept people coming.

St Tropez can still seem busy, at least by comparison with the little resorts to the west, from which the papys and mamys and childless couples, able to arrange their holidays at will, have now mostly gone.
The manège so beloved of my granddaughter, Maya, for several weeks at high season was all covered up and, give or take a few more evening or weekend openings, will soon be packed away...

But at least, before the Clio follows the example of most and heads off in a northward direction, it can benefit from this sight, rare to unheard of in July and August ...
And once we've gone, we can dream of returning soon to this ...
