Typepad has been the victim of cyber thugs for several days. That won't mean much to anyone who does not have a Typepad blog or make regular or occasional visits to Typepad sites. And even the latter may be completely unaware of Typepad in any case. The blogs just appear by magic.
Well, the past week or so has shown that they do not. I have no idea what sort of people take pleasure or profit - there has been dark talk of ransom demands, without substantiation so far as I have seen - from bringing such organisations to their knees. Only readers can judge whether the absence of Salut! among a huge number of sites was actually any great loss to the human experience.
In any event, this site - along with Salut! Live and, for all I know, poor, forgotten Salut! North - has been inaccessible throughout the period of Typepad's travails, returning only today (Wednesday April 23). I am sorry if you missed spending time here and hope the fix is lasting.
Soaraway Salut! Sunderland, with its millions of readers (OK, cumulatively) despite the tragic subject matter, has had its own hacking issues in the past but, being a Wordpress site, was unaffected this time.
Since I'm back, and happy to be so, I thought it would be a good idea to present a couple of photographs of my part of the Var. The first is Bormes-les-Mimosas, surely one of France's prettiest villages, and the second captures Le Lavandou from an elevated vantage point (not the big wheel; that is only now being reassembled after its own hibernation).
And thanks once again to the readers who have become Friends of Salut (see the announcement at the top right of this page or read about it here ). The support is greatly appreciated.
