Apologies first about this walk along the bottom of the cliffs that separate the resort of Le Lavandou, halfway between rugby-mad Toulon and rip-off Saint-Tropez, and neighbouring Saint-Clair, occasional home of Tracey Emin, Jerry Hall and others you may have heard of.
One: it may be off the beaten track for you but is not for me
Two: if I make it sound like a vigorous walk, think again
But no apology is necessary for extolling the virtues of the short stroll that is possible to make from the eastern edge of Le Lavandou and the narrow but beautiful beach of neighbouring Saint-Clair.
For the past six years, this part of the coastal path has officially been closed, at least if we are to believe the signs at either end of it.
No one, it seems, does believe them.
Ignoring the notices may lead to no more than the average pet-lover's dog walk but it is a pleasant way to spend 15 minutes or so, a good footpath with reasonably gentle steps in all the right places.
And then, of course, you walk back. Next, I'll try to come up with something more demanding.
