A Middle Eastern city I love on the strength of a single visit 12 years ago is in ruins and in mourning.
Like so many others, including those compiling early news reports, I initially assumed the devastating Beirut explosions would turn out to be an act of terrorism. It now seems extreme criminal negligence was the cause.
Couldn’t agree more. By far my most memorable little trip when love in Abu Dhabi. A grotesque event adding to the crisis-led misery that already existed

The perils of auto-correct. I know I wrote "living in Abu Dhabi".
Just part of an idle day when I spent far too much time on Twitter, which began after Mme Salut spotted this notice outside a shop near the seafront at Saint-Clair, Le Lavandou:
A shopkeeper at Saint-Clair, Le Lavandou acknowledges the French dislike of being told what to do. But no need to phone Paris; reluctant mask-wearers can communicate their désaccord directly as Macron is on holiday at the nearby Fort de Brégançon pic.twitter.com/1oEvjm1Tdh

My Twitter activity did cover other serious topics but usually in a lighthearted way.
Have you watched this interview? It’s unbelievable. I thought it was a mockumentary

Not in full but I’ve seen enough. Each time Trump opens his mouth or tweets his infantile drivel, Kim Jong-un claps his hands and says, ‘forget me, this guy really is crazy’

We are investigating the ongoing issues with uploading images. Thank you for your patience while we work on this. #TypepadStatus

Again!

Pleased for you, Russ, and other Fulham fans I know. Ideally I’d have liked both to go up as Brentford is the nearest team to where I live and my daughter’s first proper game was for their ladies. Sorry Leeds but can you cede your place as I’m also fond of the Baggies?

You’ll be tested at Calais for any Brexit symptoms

There was more I won't trouble you with. I must get out more.
But first let me return to the tragedy of Beirut and repeat a tweet from a friend and consoeur, Kim Willsher in Paris ... if only I had one euro from each of the thousands of Twitter users who - via retweets - may now have seen the silly sign about face masks, I could donate a lot of money to the appeal ... I'll find a way of sending something.
My friend @HalaJaber has organised this collection following the terrible explosions in Beirut. Here is her message: "Lebanon is in dire straits and darker days lie ahead. So help is in desperate need. Thank you". Please share.
